Preliminary Design of the Ada Programming Support Environment Configuration Manager.
Abstract
Today the development and maintenance of software are becoming prohibitively costly. With the goal of reducing the cost of producing a software system without sacrificing the quality of it, the Department of Defense (DOD) is sponsoring the development of the Ada Programming Support Environment (APSE). This thesis explains the APSE. It also explains the requirements and gives a preliminary design of one of the major tools of the APSE, the configuration manager. The preliminary design of this tool is presented using Structured Analysis and design Technique (SADT) diagrams. The preliminary design includes only a functional description of the configuration manager. Prior to presenting the preliminary design of the configuration manager, a description of how Software Configuration Management (SCM) is currently practiced is given. SCM is divided into four functions. They are configuration identification (CI), configuration control (CC), status accounting can be completely automated. Therefore, the preliminary design emphasizes the SA function. Originator-supplied keywords include: Ada, Configuration Management, And Ada Programming Support Environment (APSE).
