Calcium/Thionyl Chloride Battery Technology.

Abstract

This program is structured to develop both active and reserve configuration calcium-thionyl chloride electrochemical cells. The active configuration has required extensive work toward the storability on the calcium-anode in electrolyte solution. A variety of electrolyte salts have been screened in an effort to improve storage characteristics. The reserve configuration could lend itself to high temperature operation since calcium has such a high melting point when compared to lithium. Emphasis has been on the development of a high discharge rate cathode structure. Originator-supplied keywords include: Batteries, Calcium, and Thionyl chloride.
