Abstract

This thesis discusses weapon systems becoming increasingly complex and costly, and the variety of support equipment needed to maintain them increasing dramatic. One result of this proliferation of support equipment is the recognition of the need for an effective and efficient management and acquisition process. The objective of this research effort is to examine the procedures which have been established for the management of support equipment at the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), to identify the problems which have been encountered, and to discuss what impact recent changes in acquisition policy mandating competition have had on this process. Originator supplied keywords include: Support equipment; Acquisition; Peculiar support equipment; Common support equipment; Automated test equipment.
