Research on a Tactical Decision Aid for Near-Horizon Emitter Location.

Abstract

This final technical report on Contract N00014-83-C-0722 summarizes a research study devoted to the development of a near-horizon emitter location tactical decision aid. The particular application motivating this work is the problem of short-range target localization in support of battle group antisurface warfare (ASUW) operations, e.g., Tomahawk and Harpoon cruise missile targeting. The emitter location procedure developed by Desmatics under this contract is based on an advanced statistical estimation technique known as M-estimation and features an adaptive data screening procedure for automatic processing, detection and rejection of outliners (e.g., wild bearings).
