Performance Trial of a Manned Waterjet Testcraft.

Abstract

A 14.5-ft manned testcraft was tested in a freshwater lake to evaluate the propulsive performance of its 14-inch diameter waterjet. Propulsion shaft thrust, torque and revolutions, and waterjet velocity, testcraft speed and running trim were recorded over a range of shaft speeds up to full throttle of the 350 hp gasoline engine. Zero craft speed 'bollard' runs were included. Test results validate design assumptions of impeller advance ratio and pump efficiency.
