Design and Testing of a High Power Quasi-Optical Gyrotron.

Abstract

There are two major foci of this work; the development of a 100-120 GHz quasi-optical gyrotron and the realization of a 4 MW electron gun. The report is divided naturally into five sections, the first of which deals with the design of a quasi-optical gyrotron. The second section details the results of experiments performed with a single mode cavity. This is followed by a section describing the computational work done modelling the mirror cavity of the quasi-optical gyrotron. The design and initial results of a multi-mode quasi-optical cavity are discussed in the fourth section. Included in this section is a description of the design for a MW experiment. The final section describes the work done on the Department of Defense 4MW electron gun.
