Natural Convection in Square Partitioned Enclosures,

Abstract

Natural convection heat transfer in square air filled enclosures with differentially heated vertical side walls and horizontal connecting end walls that were either perfectly conducting or Adiabatic have been investigated between Rayleigh numbers of 10,000 to 1,000,000 by a finite difference method. Enclosures that were free of obstructions and enclosures fitted with centrally mounted vertical baffles attached to the floor and ceiling were studied, Baffle conductivity was investigated at 2 and 500 times that of air. The size of the aperture opening between the upper and lower baffle was maintained at one half the enclosure height and the aperture location was varied to study the effects on the heat transfer and flow properties on the enclosure. Keywords include: Natural Convection, Heat Transfer, and Energy Conservation.
