Technical Evaluation Report on the Flight Mechanics Panel Symposium on 'Active Control Systems - Review, Evaluation and Projections'.

Abstract

The Symposium on Active Control Systems was held in Toronto, 15-18 October, 1984. It was attended by 148 people. 27 papers were presented on various topics related to active control technology. The meeting was highlighted by a number of reports on actual flight test experience with active control systems. The contents of the papers taken as a group provide an extremely useful summary of current knowledge in the field and indicate the direction that future research should take. From the papers and discussions several ares emerged as requiring urgent further study. These included: handling qualities specifications; the use of flight control system backups: the development of high integrity systems at reasonable cost; and the demonstration of system reliability. This NATO-furnished report contains abstracts of each paper and summarizes the round table discussions.
