Installation Restoration Program. Phase I: Records Search Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota.

Abstract

The search of USAF, state and federal agency records and interviews with the past and present base personnel and agency representatives was conducted to identify past hazardous waste generation and disposal practices at Minot AFB, North Dakota. Four off-base sites were also reviewed which include a recreation area, two radar sites and the base regional hospital located in Minot. Three activities were identified as potential hazardous waste generators. Petroleum storage, water disposal and spills account for the most frequent and severe problems. Follow-on recommendations included site clean-up and closure, confirmation studies in the vicinity of past spill sites, and enhanced protection of local surface water.
