Purification of N-Acetylgalactosaminidase by Isoelectric Focusing.

Abstract

N-acetylgalactosaminidase, an enzyme which can convert type A human red blood cells to type O has been purified from human placenta by ammonium sulfate fractionation, isoelectric precipitation of impurities and affinity chromatography. A similar enzyme from the culture medium of Clostridium paraputrificum has been prepared by ammonium sulfate fractionation, gel filtration and affinity chromatography. Its effect on the conversion of type A cells and its properties have been investigated.
