Risk Management for Weapon Systems Acquisition: A Decision Support System

Abstract

This report discusses the feasibility of developing an integrated methodology for the overall risk assessment and management of weapon systems acquisition and translates this methodology into a prototype decision support system (DSS). The DSS is an intelligent, interactive man-machine decision aid which can be tailored to the particular skills and needs of the user. It can deal with complex risks and interdependencies of weapon systems development and production, and can provide program managers with a unique way of generating alternative program plans. Keywords include: Risk Assessment, Risk Uncertainty, Decision Support System, Weapon Systems Acquisition, Program Management.
