PLRS (Position Location and Reporting System) Ground-To-Ground Propagation Measurements

Abstract

Radiowave propagation measurements at 420 MHz to 450 MHz were made in the field during October and November 1979, for the purpose of evaluating the performance of a single link of the Armys Position Location and reporting System (PLRS) over short ground-to-ground communication paths obstructed by foliage and terrain. Tests were conducted under a variety of conditions set by variables that included antenna height, path length, foliage situation, terrain-obstacle height, and frequency channel. Keywords include: PLRS; Digital communications; Propagation measurements; Foliage loss; and Diffraction loss.
