Abstract

The reservoir is a 65 billion gallon water supply reservoir which was constructed to serve the Metropolitan Boston area. The reservoir is impounded by a 1423 ft. long, stone masonry dam and a 10500 ft. long earthfill dike. The dike is a maximum of 22 ft. high and consists of two earthfill embankments separated by a knoll of natural land. There is no spillway at the dike. There are deficiencies which must be corrected to assure the continued performance of the facility. (Author)
