Product Definition Data Interface. Volume 2. Detailed Test Results.

Abstract

The overall objective of the PDDI project is to develop and demonstrate a computer-driven interface between engineering and manufacturing. This interface will be desinged to process engineering-generated information required to support typical aerospace manufacturing functions and will supplant much of the flow of paper - blueprints, specifications, and other written instructions - within today's factories. This document deals only with Task I and describes the development of a test procedure for evaluating the effectiveness of CAD to CAD part model translations between different vendor systems. In addition to the test procedures, results from field testing of IGES translators for 12 different CAD systems are included. Additional keywords: Computer aided design; Computer aided manufacturing; IGES (Initial Graphic Exchange Specification); Management planning and control.
