Status Reporting on Weapon System Acquisition Programs,

Abstract

This paper examines the impact of recent changes to status reporting on weapon system acquisition programs. The changes include increasing the number of programs required to submit Selected Acquisition Reports and implementing unit cost reporting and the Defense Acquisition Executive Summary. It concludes that the changes corrected the perceived deficiencies which prompted the changes in the first place, but that, in so doing, they increased the volume and complexity of the information now required. The paper then identifies some ways to improve the process. (Author)
