Abstract

This is volume 4: Development Periods. The purpose of the study was to re-examine all aspects of the officer professional development system as it has evolved since the 1978 Review of Education and Training for Officers (RETO) Study. This report provides an analysis of every area of officer professional development (Active and Reserve), with particular concentration on education and training out ot the year 2025. The recommendations made are designed to transition the Army to a training and education strategy which will more effectively meet tomorrow's challenges. Information about courses is explained and analytically tables are presented. Development Periods and Reserve Components cover: Pre-Commissioning; Lieutenant; Captain; Major/Lieutenant Colonel; Colonel; Brigadier and Major General; and Senior General officers.
