National Program for Inspection of Non-Federal Dams. Almy Reservoir Dam (RI 01606), Pawtuxet River Basin, Johnston, Rhode Island. Phase I Inspection Report.
Abstract
The dam at Almy Reservoir is an earth embankment approximately 950 ft. in length, including a spillway crest length of 96 ft. The maximum height of the dam is 33 ft. at the outlet works. As a result of the visual inspection the dam is judged to be in very poor condition. Deficiencies observed include inoperable outlet works and seepage zones observed at the downstream toe among others. It is intermediate in size with a significant hazard potential. It is recommended that the owner immediately reduce the level of the reservoir pool and engage the services of a qualified engineer to undertake certain remedial measures. Keywords include: Inspection, Dam safety, Pawtuxet River Basin, Johnston, Rhode Island, and Dry Brook.
