The h, p and h-p Versions of the Finite Element Method in 1 Dimension. Part 2. The Error Analysis of the H and h-p Versions.

Abstract

This paper is the second part in a series of three parts which address in detail the properties and performance of the h, p and h--p versions of the finite element method in one dimensional setting. In general the h-version of FEM has the degree of elements fixed and the convergence is achieved by the refinement of the mesh. The p-version fixes the mesh and increase the degree of elements. The h-p version combines both approaches. This part investigates the h and h-p version.
