Test of a Multilevel Computational Theory of Stereoscopic Visual Image Processing.

Abstract

The scientific objective of this contract was to develop and test a computational model of human detection, discrimination, recognition, and reconstruction of dotted forms. Both computer programming and psychophysical research efforts were necessary to fulfill this goal. The dotted form continues to be a powerful vehicle with which to study visual perception by human observes as well as by computer image processors. Several experiments comparing detection, discrimination, and recognition are reported and the current status of the mathematical model describing these visual processes is presented. Additional keywords: Stereopsis; Dot masking; Naval Research.
