Early Career Preparation, Experiences, and Commitment of Female and Male West Point Graduates. Volume 3.

Abstract

The objective of this report is to describe a systematic and replicable procedure for content analyzing recorded interviews of small groups of recent West Point graduates, both men and women. The subjects are junior officers who have been on active duty for approximately one, two, or three years. The study was designed to relate individual characteristics and institutional experiences to early career adjustment and to officer performance, commitment and satisfaction. The primary focus of the analysis is the identification of differences between men and women graduates. In the particular part of the study being considered here, the focus will be on a detailed description of various factors involved in these processes and not on the relationship of individual characteristics to attitudes and behavior. Questionnaires are part of the text and totalled results are available.
