Validation of the Algorithms for Depot Exchangeable Repair and Modification Costs for NSNS and Engines for the Component Support Cost System (D160B).
Abstract
Visibility and Management of Operating and Support Costs (VAMOSC) is a program initiated by the Office of Secretary of Defense (OSD) in order to ensure that each Military Department gathers, tracks, and computes operating and support costs by weapon system. VAMOSC II is an Air Force management information system which is responsive to the OSD initiative. It uses information from existing Air Force systems to satisfy both Air Force and OSD needs for certain weapon system operating and support (O&S) costs. The Component Support Cost System (CSCS), one of 3 subsystems, of VAMOSC II gathers and computes support costs by assembly/subassembly and relates those costs back to the end item or weapon system. The CSCS receives inputs from 15 Air Force data systems. At the heart of the CSCS is a set of 30 algorithms for estimation or allocation of costs. This report provides in one cover the validation of all the CSCS algorithms dealing with depot repair and modification of exchangeable stock numbered items (NSNs) and exchangeable engines. This report affirms the basic methodology for developing depot exchangeable repair and modification costs. Recommendations are provided for using the most recent four quarters instead of one quarter for appropriate input data.
