Preliminary data are presented on a new method for quantifying total body fat based on height, weight, and six fat widths taken from an x-ray of the upper arm. The results include comparisons of subcutaneous fat measured in the standing and lying positions at seven sites by fatfold calipers and a portable ultrasound meter.
