Automatic Detection of Gulf Stream Rings.

Abstract

A prototype for a program for the automatic detection of Gulf Stream rings from satellite IR images is described and illustrated. It includes a comparative study of 40 different filters on real data. The program involves a number of components: image smoothing, image simplification, edge detection, removal of small objects, and ellipse detection. (Author)
