Marine Corps Enlistment Standards: Trends and Impact of Waivers
Abstract
Over a 6 year-perios beginning in FY78, there has been a steady increase in the number of enlistment waivers granted to Marine Corps accessions. The objectives of this effort were to (1) determine the source of the increase in granting of waivers over the past 6 years, and (2) assess the impact of this increase on premature separation from the Corps. Analyses of specific types of waivers indicated that most of this increase is due to a large increase in waivers for minor traffic violations. The permature separation rate for personnel with minor violation waivers was slightly lower than that for all waivers combined and was virtually the same as for personnel who had not received waivers. Keywords: Enlistment standards; Moral standards, Military attrition.
