Aerial Surveys of Endangered Whales in the Northern Bering, Eastern Chukchi, and Alaskan Beaufort Seas, 1984: with a Six Year Review, 1979-1984.

Abstract

Aerial surveys and acoustic recordings of bowhead whales and, secondarily, other marine mammals were made from mid-April through mid-May and from mid-July through October 1984 in the northern Bering, eastern Chukchi, and Alaskan Beaufort Seas. Survey results and observations of bowhead distribution, relative abundance, migration patterns, general behavior, and sound production for spring and fall seasons are presented. Presented here also are survey results and observations on gray whale distribution, relative abundance, and general behavior. Incidental sightings of all marine mammals are reported. (Author)
