Potential Dollar Reductions to DoD's Fiscal Year 1986 Missile and the Lightweight Multipurpose Weapon Procurement Programs.

Abstract

The Army and Marine Corps' fiscal year 1986 appropriation requests for the Stinger, the Hellfire, the Chaparral, the TOW-2, the Hawk, and the Patriot missiles and for the Lightweight Multipurpose Weapon total about $2.5 billion, broken out as follows: --$2.4 billion for the missiles and --$108.3 million for the Lightweight Multipurpose Weapon. GAO concluded that most missile programs were adequately justified; however, $313.9 million of the Army and Marine Corps' missile requests and the $108.3 million requested for the Lightweight Multipurpose Weapon should be considered for potential reduction.
