Standardized Wind and Wave Environments for North Pacific Ocean Areas

Abstract

This report is a source document for specifying wind and wave conditions for the North Pacific Ocean. The data are derived from the U.S. Navy's Spectral Ocean Wave Model (SOWM) hindcast wind and wave climatology. Some initial efforts by the Navy to synthesize the hindcasts into design tools are presented in this report. The report provides seasonal and geographic distributions of wind and wave parameters and specifies mathematical models by which wave spectra, required by any ship seakeeping performance methodology, can be developed. Long-term extreme wave predictions for fatigue analysis are also discussed.
