The 1982 Estimated Value of Waterborne Commerce.

Abstract

This research report provides an estimated per-ton value for each 4- digit Waterborne Commerce Statistics Center (WCSC) commodity code. The data used to create the average price for commodities came from the U.S. Department of Commerce statistical release SA 705, U.S. Waterborne Exports of Domestic and Foreign Merchandise. DRI consolidated 7-digit partner country and porttrade route data into 4-digit groups that were used as the basis for derivation of the total value of 1982 export shipments in U.S. dollars, and the total volume of shipments in tons. Average price per ton was calculated by dividing total dollar value for each category by its volume in tons. In this report, the estimated value of a commodity includes transportation costs. At a port of export, the estimated value of a commodity includes all domestic costs of transporting that commodity to that port of export. At a port import, the estimated value of a commodity includes all foreign costs of transporting that commodity to that port of import.
