Rapid Identification of Micro-Organisms.

Abstract

Flow cytometric parameters for the rapid identification of micro-organisms have been investigated. These include fluorescent and incident light scatter signals indicative for: 1) cell size 2) cell structure 3) DNA content 4) RNA content 5) total protein 6) surface antigens 7) intracellular enzyme activity and 8) viability (by membrane potential criteria). Several simplified instrumentation techniques for flow cytometry were also successfully explored. Originator supplied keywords include: bacteria; membrane potential; fluorescence.
