Flight Model Discharge System.

Abstract

A breadboard design for a Flilght Model Discharge System (FMDS) to prevent charging of spacecraft in geosynchronous orbit has been performed. Operational characteristics of the entire system are presented, including the electrostatic analyzer, surface potential monitor, transient pulse monitor, plasma source, and microprocessor-based controller. Design considerations that led to the final system configuration are also presented. Keywords: Electric charge; Spacecraft charging; Spacecraft automatic active discharge system.
