Videodisc Interpersonal Skills Training and Assessment (VISTA): equipment Setup and Troubleshooting

Abstract

VISTA was developed for counseling training as conducted by the Infantry Officer's Basic Course (IOBC). VISTA combines the training advantages of the microcomputer and the videodisc player to create a simulated counseling session. A problem or situation within the platoon requires counseling of a subordinate by a platoon leader. The student calls on his knowledge of counseling to decide what actions the televised platoon leader should employ. In doing so, the student is only a step away from real counseling. This manual is part of a work effort entitled Implementation of Videodisc Interpersonal Skills Training and Assessment (VISTA). The manual applies only to the original VISTA hardware: Apple II+, Pioneer LDP-1000 videodisc player, etc., and consists of five sections: Introduction, Equipment and Its Function Equipment Setup, Fine Tuning and Testing the System, and Troubleshooting. A description of the equipment and step-by-step instructions with illustrations for connecting the components are given to guide a person with minimal levels of expertise in electronics or computers. Procedures for testing and troubleshooting provide guidance for solving operational problems.
