Cavitation and Flow Visualization Investigation on Two Model Propellers.

Abstract

Experiments are described in which flow visualization and cavitation tests were conducted with two 24-inch diameter propeller models in the Center's 36-inch water tunnel. Flow visualization was performed using oil flow techniques and tufts to investigate possible flow separation on the blade surface. Cavitation tests were conducted to correlate with previously conducted surface pressure measurements. Results showed no indication of turbulent flow separation at the outer radii, and good qualitative comparisons between measured pressures and cavitation results. Originator supplied keywords: Marine propeller; Propeller cavitation; Flow visualization; Pressure distribution; Viscous flow; Oil film technique.
