Expert Systems for Civilian Personnel Administration,

Abstract

This research project dealt with a study of the application of expert systems technology to the civilian personnel administration functions in the Department of Army. Expert systems are computer programs that tackle complex problems which require a specialist or expert to solve, and provides solutions to the problems using a computer model of the human expert's reasoning techniques. The solution to the problem provided by the expert system is the same one that the human expert would have reached. As opposed to conventional procedural programming, in which specific procedures are laid out in the program to control its flow, AI programming uses descriptive techniques in which solutions to problems are described, not prescribed.
