An Investigation of Payback Periods of Equipment Purchased through the Fast Payback Capital Investment Program (FASCAP).
Abstract
This thesis was an investigation of payback periods of equipment purchased through the Fast Payback Capital Investment Program (FASCAP). The average payback period for all FASCAP projects was about one year at the time this research was accomplished. The purpose of this thesis was to identify any equipment type that amortized significantly faster or slower than the one year average. Projects approved in 1980, 1981, and 1982 that amortized within two years were included in the analysis. These projects were grouped into eleven equipment types based on Federal Supply Classification. Average payback periods for each group were statistically analyzed for significant differences. The data was not normally distributed so nonparametric methods were used. The Kruskal-Wallis test indicated that there were significant differences among the averages of the groups. The Wilcoxon rank-sum test was then performed to identify which pairs of average payback periods differed significantly.
