Downrigger Instrumentation to Record Thermosonde Data.

Abstract

This report describes the instrumentation of a package for recording of thermosonde data while suspended from a gondola of a high altitude zero pressure balloon. The data, used to determine the optical refractive index structure parameter (C sub N) squared, was recorded on a cassette while the package was lowered and raised. A portable console designed to control the instrumentation in the laboratory and to recover the data after the flight is also described. Keywords: Downrigger instrumentation; and Thermosonde data.
