A Numerical Investigation into the Plastic Stress and Strain Fields Around a Surface Crack.

Abstract

This paper presents two finite element approaches for the three dimensional elastic-plastic analysis of a surface crack. The distributions of the stress and strain fields around the crack are discussed in detail and it shown that both approaches yield similar values for the strain energy distribution around the crack. Keywords: Stress analysis; Fracture mechanics; Nonlinear propagation analysis; Two dimensional; Australia. (Author)
