Passively Damped Joints for Advanced Space Structures.

Abstract

This report contains a description of significant accomplishments including: (1) the development of a viscoelastic materials selection guide for this research activity; (2) the development of an analytic statics model of the joint specimens; (3) the design, fabrication and preliminary testing of 15 viscoelastic joint specimens; (4) the procurement, fabrication and assembly of most of the test equipment for the test program as well as the development of data reduction computer programs; and (5) the development and successful demonstration of a transient pulse method for evaluating energy losses in joints.
