Force-Pulse Tests of Tactical Communication Equipment

Abstract

A unique test device as been developed and has been shown to be an effective means of subjecting electronic equipment to biaxial acceleration levels that might be encountered in a battlefield condition. The pulse generator can develop simultaneously a 10,000-lb force vertically and horizontally. Test articles of up to 100 lb have been tested in a rack-mounted system to acceleration levels of 2000 g's. Several mechanical limitations have been identified (i.e., tool chatter) and research has been suggested to broaden the field of application of the pulser. Keywords include: Blast; Force pulser; Fragility; and Shock simulation.
