Producibility and Cost Studies of Aviation Kerosines. Report of the Propulsion and Energetics Panel Working Group 16 on Supply and Demand Scenarios for Aviation Turbine Fuels.
Abstract
The Propulsion and Energetics Panel Working Group 16 provided input data and reviewed the findings of a computer study on refinery processing of aviation kerosine fuels to apply results to present and projected NATO fuel supply and demand changes. This report presents a summary of the study background and results, and the interpretations, conclusions, and recommendations of the Working Group. Working Group 13 of the Propulsion and Energetics Panel examined the effects of broadened-property aviation kerosine fuels in current aircraft engines and fuel systems and proposed a Research Fuel for testing, which represented and extreme-property NATO aviation kerosine fuel for the year 2000 or later. The Working Group 13 report (4) recommended, in part, that refinery supply and demand studies be conducted to determine the relationship of aviation kerosine fuel and competing fuel properties to refining yield, energy consumption, and cost. The NASA-EXXON study combined crude feedstock types and selected refinery configurations to create regional calculation models. In this manner, the United States, Canada, and Europe were each represented in the form of two independent geographic marketing regions. The models, covering a complete array of refinery products, were verified initially against historic data.
