DF Vibrational Relaxation.

Abstract

This report presents experimental results of the vibrational relaxation of DF(2 < or = v < or = 4) and DF(9 < or = v < or = 12). The fast flow infrared chemiluminescence method was used to determine vibrational relaxational rate constants for the processes DF(2 < or = v < or = 4) + Carbon Monoxide, Hydrogen Fluoride, Deuterium Fluoride, Nitrous Oxide, Carbon Tetrafluoride, and Sulfur Hexafluoride and DF(9 < or = v < or = 12) + Nitrogen, CO, HF, DF, Carbon Dioxide, and N20. These are the first measurements of relaxation rate constants for the high vibrational states of DF. They are combined with low v-level data in order to gain additional insight into fundamental energy transfer questions such as the origin of the unusually strong v-dependences. Keywords: chemical laser; quenching; vibrational relaxation; energy transfer; molecular dynamics; initial state distribution.
