Software Reporting Metrics. Revision 2.

Abstract

This paper presents a set of software management metrics that have been developed by the ESD/MITRE Software Center. The metrics are designed to assist in monitoring the progress of software development by gaining better visibility into the software acquisition process. This revision reflects government and industry comments on the previous version, and includes new charts, information on application of the metrics, and appendices containing generic and sample data items. This document is intended to help Project Managers prepare software development status reports. System Program Officers (SPOs) are expected to use these metrics to augment conventional acquisition system development reports such as cost and schedule reports. Section II presents each metric. Section III discusses application of the metrics. Section IV describes continuing work efforts in the area of software status monitoring and metrics.
