Container System Hardware Status Report,

Abstract

Future contingencies will require heavy reliance on the use of containers for the shipment of all commodities. Over the past two decades, the shift by the Merchant Marine industry from the breakbulk fleet to containerships has compelled the Department of Defense to examine its programs to support deployed forces and projected contingencies. In order to report on the status of programs associated with containerization, the publication of this report was initiated by the former Office of Project Manager, Army Container Oriented Distribtuion System to provide information to various Army activites involved or having an interest in the development and fielding of the Container Oriented Distribtution System. Partial Contents: Container equipment; Handling equipment; Transportation equipment; Lots, Harbor, and Container offloading and Transfer equipment system; and Aerial port/terminal equipment.
