The First Cortical Implant of a Semiconductor Multielectrode Array. VER (Visual Evoked Responses) and Propagation Analysis.

Abstract

This thesis reports results of the analysis of data collected from the first cortical implant of an electrode array on the primary visual cortex of a laboratory beagle. No evidence of visual evoked responses (VERs) was found in the data by summation and averaging techniques. Spatial correlation results indicate support of the hyper-column theory. Spatio-temporal correlation results indicate EEG signal propagation among the cortical columns under the array. Lack of any classic VER findings may be due to data digitaization errors. Major recommendations include redigitization of the beagle data, as well as procedures for future chip implants and analyses using the Masscomp MC-500 computer. (Author)
