Development and Implementation of the X.25 Protocol for the Universal Network Interface Device (UNID) II. Volume 1.

Abstract

This thesis describes the continued development of an improved Universal Network Interface Device (UNID II). The UNID II's architecture was based on a preliminary design project at the Air Force Institute of Technology. The UNID II contains two main hardware modules; an local module for the network layer software and a network module for the data link layer software and physical layer interface. Each module is an independent single board computer (SBC) residing on an Intel multibus chassis, complete with its own memory (EPROM and RAM), serial link interfaces, and multibus interface. The local module is an iSBC 544 and the network module is an iSBC 88/45. The network layer software supports the CCITT X.25, datagram option, protocol and the data link layer software supports the CCITT X.25 LAPB (HDLC) protocol. This report documents the further implementation of the CCITT X.25 protocol in the UNID II design.
