Limit Cycle of the Planar Non-Linear Motion of a Finned Projectile,

Abstract

The planar non-linear motion of a finned projectile with small damp and weak non-linear static moment was studied. The stable limit cycle is used to explain the self-oscillation generated by some projectiles. The unstable limit cycle is used to investigate the causes for the fortuitous fall of some finned projectiles. In order to alleviate the effect of self-oscillation and to eliminate the fortuitous fall of projectiles, the non-linear portion of the damp moment and that of lift should be increased and the non-linear part of the drag should be decreased.
