Modernization of Weather Support to the Space Transportation System.

Abstract

This document describes Space Shuttle launch and recovery weather requirements and constraints, Shuttle support mission of Detachment 11, 2d Weather Squadron. It discusses the NASA-USAF Meteorological Systems Modernization Program (MSMP) and the group formed to administer it. The Group is co-charied by Directorate of Space Stationed and Advanced Projects, Technology Projects Office (PT-TPO) of Kennedy Space Center (NASA) and Detachment 11 2d Weather Squadron (ESMC/WE) of Patrick AFB. The group's purpose is to upgrade in-place forecast technology to ensure the challenges of Shuttle weathr support can be met. Keywords: Weather forecasting.
