Excellence in the Korean Air Force Fighter Squadrons: View of the Fighter Pilots.

Abstract

This is a preliminary study of excellence of the Korean Air Force fighter squadron. The study identifies the attributes associated with outstanding fighter squadrons based upon interviews with fighter pilots who are currently enrolled as students at the Naval Postgraduate School. After reviewing environmental, structural, and cultural backgrounds of fighter squadron of the Korean Air Force, the qualities of excellence evident from the interviews are described and compared with those of the U.S. Air Force fighter squadrons. The seven attributes which contribute to the excellence of Korean Air Force fighter squadrons consist of unique culture, strong cohesion, member's satisfaction, concern and dedication, flight leadership, and respect for authority.
