Analog Membrane Disinfection Indicator and Halogen Electrode.

Abstract

The proof of concept of the Analog Membrane Disinfection Indicator, AMDI, was completed as a rapid simple integrating measuring system for the extent of chlorine disinfection of water supplies. A methyl red dyed membrane strip was able to integrate the total concentration-time response of chlorine by comparison with the chlorine electrode and also in a time response analogous to the disinfection of the spore of B. subtilis. A neutral red dyed AMDI was more sensitive and less subject to high pH interference than the methyl red AMDI.
