Remote Optical Settling Tube.

Abstract

A remote optical settling tube was designed, calibrated and tested at Sea Tech, Inc. The instrument was delivered to the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution where it underwent preliminary field testing. Problems encountered in the field testing phase were addressed and solved at Sea Tech and the instrument was returned to Woods Hole for deployment. The remote optical settling tube was moored in the Atlantic Ocean as part of the ongoing HEBBBLE research program. Recovery of the mooring will take place in April 1986. Software was developed and tested at Sea Tech for the analysis of data from the settling tube. This software has been used successfully on a previous data set obtained with a prototype optical settling tube. Keywords include: HEBBLE; Optical settling tube; Transmissometer; and Particle size distribution.
