Study of Test Methods for Urethane Elastomers.

Abstract

The feasibility of using a portable instrument to determine the physical condition of fabric-reinforced polyurethane fuel tanks was studied during this project. The condition of the polyurethane was determined by measuring its surface electrical resistivity. Electrical resistivity of a polymer will change as it ages or deteriorates. An instrument designed and built by Southwest Research Institute personnel was found to be effective in determining the relative surface resistivity of polyurethane. This instrument was able to measure the surface resistivity of polyurethane samples in varying degrees of degradation due to human aging.
